Year Six students from Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy made 150 poppies to remember the soldiers from St. John's congregation who fought during the First World War 100 years ago. The workshops lead by Carol Desborough encouraged the students to research the World War 1 Roll of Honour and remember the soldiers with poppies and an 'Explosion of Prayers' listing the students names linked to that of a soldier. The Roll of Honour found at St. John's is unique as it lists all the men from the congregation that served during World War 1, out of the 150 names listed only 14 paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Roll of Honour and poppies were displayed on Armistice Day 2018 during local artist Peter Rodulfo's exhibition at Skippings Gallery, 133 King Street, Great Yarmouth. The poppies and Roll of Honour have been on permanent display throughout the project at Great Yarmouth Library and will be available to view at the Stories of St. John's exhibition 23rd April - 1st May 2019 11am-2pm daily (except Sunday).
A transcription of the Roll of Honour can be found in the Transcription section of this site. See also Research for an example of the colour coded record sheets.
